Biomechanical Gait Analysis

Biomechanical Gait Analysis

BIOMECHANICS is the study of gait, both walking and running.
The repetitive nature of running in particular places high demands on ligaments, tendons, and muscles and also the bony structure of joints.

At our clinics in Norwich and Dereham, we can use gait analysis to help assess your gait, and offer advice on footwear, training on cadence and posture, and treatment options including orthotics to increase efficiency of gait.

WHAT IS VIDEO GAIT ANALYSIS?

Gait
For a full Biomechanical assessment, an initial double appointment will be necessary, to allow a full clinical observation, including video analysis of the client on a running machine.

Frontal and sagittal (side) plane angles are recorded and compared.
This can then be played back to explain and demonstrate exactly what is causing pain/dysfunction and when it is happening. A digital biometer allows Mike to measure accurately the degrees of pathological moment occurring during the gait cycle.

In a still frame of digital footage, deviation in a vertical line plotted on the back of the heel can demonstrate excessive pronation of the foot.

Functional problems can be diagnosed, which may not ordinarily be apparent and these can be functionally corrected with a professionally prescribed customised foot orthotic.

NOT JUST ABOUT RUNNING!

ARE YOU UNSTEADY ON YOUR FEET? WE CAN HELP WITH FALLS PREVENTION

gait
Having worked with Norwich Foot Health Services as a Falls Prevention Lead, Mike can identify problems with unsteady walking, which can lead to joint pain and dysfunction.
This can include advice on walking aids, joint braces, foot wear and/or orthotics (arch supports) if necessary.
